New call for application for Induction Learning Programme

Apply for the "Induction to IFRC" learning programme

We are pleased to announce that the seventh round of “Induction to IFRC Operations” Learning Programme will start on 3 March 2025. We, hereby, invite you to apply or nominate your candidates.

3-7 March 2025: Onboarding and Welcome session

10 March – 11 April 2025: Learning programme

8-15 April 2025: Final test

The goal of this Programme is to prepare staff to navigate critical IFRC systems, policies, and procedures in emergency operations. It is aimed to make your life during surge deployments easier.

Modality: interactive online learning experience with scenarios based on real-life cases. The Programme includes independent e-learning, weekly facilitated classes, practice sessions, graded assignments, and one-on-one sessions with tutors. Live sessions will run twice on the same day to allow participation from different regions.

Selection criteria:

  1. Individuals who are intending to deploy as part of Surge (Rapid Response or ERU). This training is designed primarily for implementation level staff (Tier 1) who have only limited experience of deployments to IFRC emergency operations – these profiles are given a preference. Coordinator and Management (Tier 2-3) level staff with more experience in IFRC emergency operations may also apply for this training as a refresher, but these seats are limited.
  2. Individuals must be a staff member, volunteer or registered member of a National Society, IFRC or ICRC.
  3. Experience in supporting (in person or remotely) at least 2 emergency response operations at national level or at least 1 emergency response operation at international level in the last 10 years.
  4. Technical sector expertise, ideally matching one of the role profiles in the Catalogue of Surge services (including members of an ERU) - a strong advantage.
  5. Experience of working effectively in highly stressful circumstances.
  6. Experience of working in multi-discipline and multi-national teams.
  7. Fluent (at least upper intermediate level) in both written and spoken English.
  8. Digital literacy to be able to complete the programme online (e-learning, Zoom, SharePoint, coworking tools, etc.)
  9. Support from line manager/supporting National Society is required to ensure that participants have enough time to complete the Programme and are available for a deployment for at least one month during the next 24 months’ period.

Outcomes of the Programme for Participants:

Participants who complete the programme successfully will be eligible to become a Rapid Response Personnel Member and will be invited to register in the Rapid Response Management System (RRMS) if they are interested in future deployments and want to start receiving alerts. In the RRMS, they will be granted the tag “Induction”, meaning they are proficient in IFRC policies and procedures.

Nomination of candidates and selection of training participants:

There are 40 seats available on the programme. The seats will be distributed among all the regions, ensuring equitable representation based on the number of applications.

Deadline for all applications:

The strict deadline for applications to be received by the Global Surge Learning Team is Tuesday, 4 February 2025 end of day CET.

The selection is done by the Selection Committee that includes Surge Desk HQ and Regional Offices, and Surge Learning team, and takes into consideration the application form, NS priority order, gender, sector, and regional diversity.

Please note, all applicants are requested to attach to their application an authorization form signed by their line managers. (You can download the template from the call for application).

 Costs:

This Learning Programme has a cost of 500 CHF per participant. These fees will allow us to run the Programme on a regular basis, engage experienced tutors, and keep the content of the Programme relevant and regularly updated.

A National Society / IFRC office has 3 options:

  • Pay for their own participant (500 CHF).
  • Pay for their own participant and sponsor other participant(s) who would otherwise not be able to participate. This will allow us to grant fee waivers. (1000 - 1500 CHF)
  • Request a fee waiver if they are not able to pay (0 CHF).

IFRC will invoice you for the selected amount.

We look forward to receiving your applications by the indicated closing date. If you experience any issues during the application process, please email us at surge.learning@ifrc.org
